Truly superior pilots are those who use their superior judgement to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills
I read this excellent quote today in the 70th anniversary magazine for the Scandinavian Airline Systems (SAS). It’s applicable to life in general.
I have an opposite point of view. Actually it’s not my point of view, it’s the opinion of a retired SAS flight attendant who was my customer in Beitostolen. I remember her very well, she was a 45 y.o very nice person. Our dialogue was as it follows:
” – Should I trust SAS pilots?”
” – Yes, 100%”, she told me
” – Ok, may I ask why?”
” – Sure, Dragos. That’s because our pilots like to push their limits, mostly in harsh areas of Norway. In SAS we consider domestic pilots as be better skilled than international ones. So don’t worry, try a flight over the mountains from Leirin to Oslo, try a flight in the polar areas, try a flight wherever you need in Norway”.
That was the dialogue, I remember she emphasized one more time on the domestic pilots and their “pleasure” to confront danger. It’s not about putting people in danger, it’s about SAS pilots have cold blood in any situation. Respect and Happy Birthday SAS!
The two concepts merged, and we have a winner 🙂
