I agree with L. Kin with what he has written below:
Hubbard found a set of axioms which he granted the importance of natural law. On the set theme of these axioms he improvised for the greater part of his life, finding ever-new solutions to the ever-changing problems presented to him by the cases of people. The great error being made by many scientologists inside and outside the CofS is that they mistake Hubbard’s 30-year research for the ultimate in wisdom. Instead of following Hubbard’s call and researching further – always and unvaryingly on the basis of the axioms – they elevate “what Ron says” to a dogma and introvert into solutions of the past. The implication of this is that while the majority have learned a lot about it, they believe they still have a long way to go before they manage – or dare to claim – to understand the subject. As it stands now, “the tech” in the CofS has lost its aliveness and became petrified. For those, however, who get gains from dancing around the monument of their godhead, it still serves a purpose.
Knowledge should never be monopolized. We should keep building on the knowledge that has been uncovered so far. I would like to see that included in the theme next week in Florida.

The time coincidence between Hubbard’s research and concurrent world developments deserve our attention. 1968 was the year of student revolts across Europe, of the Russians taking Prague by tank power; it marks the peak of the Vietnam war and of the peoples of Earth feeling threatened by atomic warfare. Just then, Hubbard began to fight Xenu’s powers by releasing OT III. Twenty years later, in 1988, Xenu ceases to show up in solo sessions. His power is broken. And a year later the Berlin wall falls, the USSR crumbles; again a year later (1990) the former archenemies USA and Russia join hands in the handling of world affairs. The cold war is over for good.
Whether these have anything to do with each other – this I leave up to you. You could argue that hell is still turned loose all around the planet; maybe worse than ever. I could counter that an outcry of protest is to be expected when a centuries-old suppression begins to lift off, and that the absence of the enforced stability one is accustomed to will lead invariably to chaos – until a new and self-determined stability has settled in. Apart from that a lot of work with individuals has to be done yet before there will be peace and quietness. Just because the general and his officers have taken to their heels, the troops do not know that the war is over and keep following their old orders. – But, as I said, whether these have anything to do with each other, that decision I leave up to the reader.

From my reading of the OT levels, Xenu was not the only thing to be conquered. Just for starters, there was also Incident I (Xenu was Incident II).

I think that space opera incidents do come up in auditing. They are considered authentic because they are accompanied by somatics.
But all that is unnecessary significance. What is important is that somatic is released.

How do you know that, Vin? As far as I know that is mere conjecture. Have you done research on it? Or is it because it doesn’t fit with your own basic assumptions. 😛
I remember one incident that came up in my auditing where I seem to be in a spaceship which got caught in the gravity of earth. At that point my neck tilted backwards as it happens during high acceleration. My neck got stuck in that position and the auditor panicked and ordered me to come to present time..
When I look back at that incident, it seems very plausible that mind can very well dream up pictures using its imagination to provide a narrative for the somatics being felt. This is very much like how dreams are formed.
What “seems plausible” (i.e. conjecture) is a far cry from research, or even a preponderance of anecdotal evidence. On the other hand, there’s plenty of that kind of evidence to indicate that space opera incidents aren’t just the pc’s imagination.

Yes, that is quite correct and Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. This story is true in the same vein as your story is true. Anectodotal evidence is kind of an oxymoron.

According to Hubbard, there have been many other such incidents and alien involvement in Earth’s affairs is still ongoing. The result is that thetans today are severely “aberrated” by billions of years of mistreatment in past lives, causing mental and physical problems such as illness, insanity and war. The only way to resolve this is said to be through Scientology’s “auditing” or counselling methods. During Scientology auditing sessions, the Scientologist is “regressed” through a series of past lives and key incidents which they may have experienced.
Since I don’t see a fully rehabilitaed thetan through Scientology auditing after 64 years, Hubbard’s “theory” does seem like no more that B grade science fiction hypothesis.
There is no proof. End of story.

There’s no doubt that LRH did not achieve what he originally postulated. He knew that OT VIII was just the first “OT level” (the lower one’s were pre-OT levels), and that there were many others needed.
Here’s what Ken Ogger (“The Pilot”) wrote in his book *Super Scio*. I think this is the approach we should take:
“For the last decade, I have been researching on my own, trying to carry the subject [Scientology] on to its next stage. No subject has ever been researched completely by a single individual, nor has two ever been enough. It’s an ongoing process, and the number of great names connected with even a single practical area such as electricity is enormous.”

That’s good, Vinnie. But why in the world do you feel the need to keep up a continuous negative flow about Scientology after all these years? There are plenty of other things to decry, if that’s your inclination.

I think Scientology helped me look at lot of good data. But there is lot of useless data mixed with Scientology data. Talking about it just helps me separate workable from useless.

In terms of valuable data from Scientology, on top of my list is AXIOM 11.
AXIOM 11: THE CONSIDERATIONS RESULTING IN CONDITIONS OF EXISTENCE ARE FOUR-FOLD.
(a) AS-IS-NESS is the condition of immediate creation without persistence, and is the condition of existence which exists at the moment of creation and the moment of destruction, and is different from other considerations in that it does not contain survival.
(b) ALTER-IS-NESS is the consideration which introduces change and therefore time and persistence, into an AS-IS-NESS to obtain persistency.
(c) IS-NESS is an apparency of existence brought about by the continuous alteration of an AS-IS-NESS. This is called, when agreed upon, Reality.
(d) NOT-IS-NESS is the effort to handle IS-NESS by reducing its condition through the use of force. It is an apparency and cannot entirely vanquish an IS-NESS.
It is AS-ISNESS that brings about relief in auditing action. I first encountered it on TR0 and it was mindblowing. It was from this that I came to recognize the value of seeing things as they are. It was later that I connected it with MINDFULNESS, which Buddha was talking about. This made perfect sense because Scientology acknowledged its roots in Buddhism.

All space opera stuff in Scientology seems to fall in the category of useless data.
I don’t know about that Marildi. Vinaire puts his ideas into action. At a minimum, he has consistently been providing free math tutoring and voluminous writing and organizing of his ideas. That a few perceive him as abrasive seems small potatoes to me. The complaints about his negativity toward Scientology seem to not originate from practicing Scientologists. Again, small potatoes.
Neither did LRH produce a Clear. Neither in 1950 nor ’60, nor’70, nor ’80’s. Then he turned it over to Miscavige. We are pretty hard on Miscavige for this.

That’s an interesting way of putting it. I see it that way as well. On the upside, practicing with large and small numbers and doing lots of comparisons to the size of real things helps me feel more comfortable and familiar with these extreme numbers.
But if I really think about and put my HP to work, I also I find it a stretch to believe that memory survives intact back to more than 5.0651×10^75 of our universes ago. This is a long time to stay butt-hurt about something. I call that really holding a grudge!
Several things makes this absolutely rubbish – first it’s the dates linked to OUR galaxy that are orders of magnitude older than our universe – let alone our own galaxy. But the thing that closes the deal is this: If there is to be reactive and analytical actual pictures of the whole track all the way down to that crazy date, each mind of every being in this universe would have to contain more particles than exists in the known universe. Sorry LRH, you need to do the basics physics class again. Me smell an inconsistency. What say you, Vin?
Per Wikipedia, perception retains its exact form for not more than few hundred milliseconds before it transforms into experience. Thus, exact picture perceived is no longer there almost immediately after being perceived. It reduces to an impression. Over time experience reduces to information. Information then leads to hypotheses. Hypothesis generates theory. From theory are derived principles. And principles are consolidated into axioms.
Each of these transformations allows increasing condensation of knowledge, so that more knowledge may be stored with increased efficiency. The storage algorithms allow for a reconstruction of a memory from the cross-indexing of data. Such memory is never as exact as the original picture.
A memory is, therefore, a visualization of the past and not an extraction of some stored picture. How exact that visualization is to the original perception is debatable. Later experience will definitely affect earlier memory in conscious recall.
It is possible that some perception does not get resolved and indexed this way. Such inconsistencies may be categorized as follows:
1. Engram (Inconsistency in Perception)
2. Unwanted feeling or emotion (Inconsistency in Experience)
3. Indoctrination (Inconsistency in Information)
4. Belief (Inconsistency in Hypothesis)
5. Doctrine (Inconsistency in Theory)
6. Fixed ideas (Inconsistency in Principles)
7. Fixed viewpoints (Inconsistency in Axioms)
8. Fixed identity (Inconsistency in Self)
Inconsistencies add inaccuracies to extrapolated knowledge. I may not have worked all this out completely, but recall does not seem to be as simple as assumed by Hubbard. Listing and Nulling may narrow down to an incident, by a time scale subjective to the person. Their misunderstoods in maths and sciences will definitely come into play.

You think that it is anywhere near plausible that the mind (as per Dianetics contains real energy pictures made up of real particles) would contain a perfect recall of everything that happened down to that ridiculous date 25 snap shots per second on all 57 senses? That would require the Minimum of 10^107 particles to hold that amount of information – requiring more particles than 1000000000000000000 universes of the size we can see.
That’s not the way I understand LRH’s construct. I believe he says that the energy pictures are re-created by the thetan because of something similar in the environment (as in restimulation), or they are re-created simply by the thetan’s intention being directed to them

I like your idea that the images are made up because of a correlation to the present environment.
That’s not my idea; it’s LRH’s. The images correlate to the environment “when the thetan’s attention is directed to them” by the environment. Besides the environment, it can be an auditing command, or the thetan simply looking back and remembering – i.e. the “attention is directed.”

This theme was picked in the movie “Matrix”. This is nothing more than entertaining Science fiction. Hubbard just found a new use of science fiction to exploit human gullibility to it and make money by offering it as a cure.
Cure comes from closely inspecting one’s condition but not in the fantastic proportions claimed by Hubbard. Not a single proof exists for any of the supernatural abilities that Hubbard made people to expect from Scientology auditing.
But gullible people are still there both inside and outside the Church of Scientology.

Yes, the conditions of existence start with CONSIDERATIONS. Considerations form the guts of all manifestations. They are the atomic structure of the spiritual world. It is beautifully explained in Hubbard’s Phoenix lectures.

Manifestations present themselves to us as we consider them, or as we look at them in NOW. There is no persistence in them. They change as we change our considerations, or change our attention. It is simply a recognition of what is there at any moment. They do not survive from one moment to next when we are fully aware of them. The “cycle is being completed” in each moment. Creation and destruction is happenening there and then. Nothing is carried forward.
Anything that is carried forward is, therefore, not being viewed in its entirety. What a beautiful concept!

Anything that is carried forward is, therefore, not being viewed in its entirety. It is being altered in some way. It is being altered by not looking at parts of it, or adding falsehoods to it intentionally or unintentionally. A good word is “filter”. We alter our view by looking through filters of our expectations (rose colored glasses), assumptions, speculations, etc.
My contention is that we can counter such alter-is-ness through the use of MINDFULNESS as being prescribed here:

We look at what is there, and that is “is-ness”. This “is-ness” is persisting because of past alterations. We are looking at this is-ness through our existing filters (biases, prejudices, fixed ideas, etc.). We now have the following two choices:
(1) Either we alter this “is-ness” further by acquiring new filters,
(2) Or we start recovering from existing alter-is by becoming aware of existing filters.
One way to become aware of existing filters is to mindfully observe inconsistencies present in the “is-ness” and follow them through to the realization of how one is contributing to them.

(3) Without any further aberration — Just AS-IS!

As-isness occurs as one recognizes the filters and how is-ness is being alter-ised. This can be a continuous process that occurs on gradient because it is not that simple in reality.

When one is using force, such as, blaming others or invalidating them, one is contributing to NOT-IS-NESS. When one is forcefully asserting oneself and refusing to discuss the other person’s viewpoint, one is denying oneself a good look at what is there.
Thus, one ends up with a view, which is pretty much made up of one’s own filters. Here one’s filters are not only altering the IS-NESS, but becoming a dominant part of one’s view by denying the IS-NESS.

So, the following exercise in MINDFULNESS is also an exercise in AS-ISNESS:
EXERCISE: Observe without expecting, or attempting to get an answer.
1. Observe as usual. Notice the environment and other people.
2. While observing, spot expectations that you have.
3. Notice such expectations one by one. Let them be. Don’t suppress them. Simply become aware of them, and then move on.
4. Please note that expectations add extraneous thoughts.
5. While observing, spot extraneous thoughts. Notice expectations underlying those thoughts. Let them be. Don’t suppress them. Simply become aware of them, and move on.
6. Please note that uncontrolled thinking comes about when one is trying to predict what may happen tomorrow.
7. While observing, spot uncontrolled thinking. Notice the possible scenarios the mind is trying to predict. Let them be. Don’t suppress them. Simply become aware of them, and move on.
8. Please note that unanswered questions generate speculations.
9. While observing, spot unanswered questions that you have. Notice the speculations that the mind might be entertaining. Let them be. Don’t suppress them. Simply become aware of them, and move on.
10. Expand your span of attention and let the perceptions pour in.
11. Let the realizations present themselves to you without you making any effort.
You may do this exercise while sipping coffee in a café, or strolling along a river. You may even find a place where you can sit comfortably for a while without being disturbed and patiently observe the stage that this world presents.
Develop this exercise to a point where you may execute it even while interacting socially with others. Keep observing patiently without expecting anything, or attempting to get an answer. Many things may come up naturally to be scrutinized. Simply observe them and become aware of them without making any effort.

Geir, it seems like they cut most of your talk out of the video. Was that because you were honest about Scientology and weren’t only talking about the negative? At least that was the impression I got, although it was almost impossible to really get what you were saying because of the bad acoustics. Was it just that one event that you’ll be speaking?

Beyond that – I am getting tired of the whole Scientology thing. It’s such a polarized situation bereft with nut cases both in and out that I think it best to ditch the whole thing.

Scientology is receding into our rear view mirrors just as all our life experiences do. It is so interesting to me how proportionately large Scientology used to be in my life compared to how proportionately small it is today — fractal in nature. And my mental changes were not smooth but in discrete tipping points — revealing.

Thank you Cal. We should remember that nearly all Scientologists were just regular well intentioned people who wanted to understand and improve themselves. My current opinion is that Scientology Technology is slanted and inconsistent and so very contradictory in such a way as to block a well intentioned person from getting better. For me, Hubbard was crazy and although one may point to some of his dramatic and flowery writing as evidence of his good intentions, one may just as well point to his own Flag Orders, cross ordering, in-house directives, advices, and orders and show a psychotic nut. If we learned anything of use and take away a few useful tools from our involvement, then good. These could have been gotten elsewhere, but still good. On the other hand, the subject is overall destructive in such a way as to render it less than useless as a whole subject. I have no doubt that die hard independents will soldier on but I cannot predict for how long or in what form Scientology will survive or reform. We’ll know when we see. As I’ve stated before, I don’t teach this to my children but rather evaluate them individually and situationally and apply what I have learned in a lifetime of well intentioned and interested living to help them.
I pretty much concur with you Chris… and… middle of the (rocky) road… helps keeps you from ending up in the (hidden) ditches, too! WE, of course GET that! (bumps & scratches to remind us!) LOL! 🙂
Self-learning is the way to go in this information age. This applies to Math, spirituality, or to any other subject. The key is to make the materials available on Internet.

Yes, self learning is finally possible in the Information Age. I wonder what type of “age” will come after this one? I could never have guessed at the current scene with the internet and modern computing and I really really don’t know what could come next nor what form the information age will soon take.
I would hedge that the next “age” might be the age of Learning and Knowledge. Having information does not necessarily mean that one is learning and acquiring knowledge.
As learning spreads and the number of educated people increase we shall see stabilization of the world population. The attention of the majority will start to shift away from quantity and toward quality of life.
Life would start to simplfy. Knowledge shall be valued incresingly. More creativity will come about and art will flourish.
Ultimately, population may start to decrease and a renaissance in ecology may come about.
I hope this happens.
I hope so too. One thing that is always left out of Star Trek are the janitors and other service people of that caliber. It makes me wonder who cleans a star ship? In that “perfect future” I always wonder who will do the dirty work? And why will they like it?
BTW, Geir, I’m sure you will quickly ‘settle out’ from all the ‘noise’, and shift to plan ‘B’ ? (The ‘fuck it’- so what next, one! )

We now have a functioning “E (education) – Team” in Clearwater, Florida. Right now we are meeting every other Friday at Panera Bread opposite the Countryside Mall on 580.
Our aim is to spark a grass-roots learning revolution. We shall be meeting this Friday and discussing some of the issues prevalent in education and how they can be circumvented in this Information Age. Out-of-Box thinking is required.
That’s really commendable. I hope to do more along this line as I obtain more discretionary time.
